Welcome to "Then I Guess I'm Selfish".

Hello.

This blog is more of a social project than a blog. It is meant to be a place where women can share their stories. They can share stories regarding abortion, childbirth, pregnancy, contraception, sex, relationships, children, divorces, domestic violence, the workplace, being a stay-at-home mom, porn, alcohol, sexual orientation, anything.

The idea for this blog came from my heavy involvement in the abortion debate. I saw many labels attached to women who abort. The main one that people, male and female, threw around was "selfish". So I thought to myself, "You know, these people have no idea what these women have actually gone through, yet they seem to think they know their character". So then I figured, why not give women a place to share their abortion stories? I ran it by a couple of my friends and family members, and my good feminist friend Emily, co-blogger at Feminists to the Rescue, came up with the idea to expand it to all things that affect women. I thought this was a great idea, because in all realms women are thought of as selfish if they think of themselves. The example Emily gave was of a woman who hadn't shopped for herself in years because she thought it would be selfish.

What I want to do is just give a platform to the women who have been labeled selfish for one thing or another. What I want this to be is a place where the strangers that think of only themselves, wherever they are, can come and tell their stories. They will be presented without judgment and entirely anonymously. They can be about anything, anyone, and from any time. They don't even have to be in written form. If you want to send me something Postsecret style, a piece of art, a poem, anything. Anything that expresses your story of how you were so selfish is fine.

I hope that, through this blog, we can all see that maybe these strangers aren't so selfish after all. I hope that we can see that maybe these women had a reason for the things they did, even if it WAS just to please themselves. I hope that maybe one day our society will think that women pleasing themselves isn't selfish, but ok and part of human nature.

That is the goal of this blog, social project, whatever you want to call it.

Any submissions can be sent to a special e-mail address set up specifically for this project. All submissions will be overlooked and posted accordingly. All posts shall be anonymous unless requested otherwise. Any material that the author feels should be taken down after posting will be taken down accordingly. Please just let me know.
